Classroom Contract
GRADING POLICY:
·
Exams
and Papers 50%
·
Quizzes,
Term Projects 10%
·
Homework 25%
·
Participation,
attendance, classwork 15%
1.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend
class promptly every day.
Absences must be for a legitimate cause such as documented illness, court
appearance, school trip, religious holiday or suspension. It is your
responsibility to get missing notes and written material from your classmates.
You must make up all missed work.
2.
Homework: Homework will be given and must be completed on time. Poor
quality work will be handed back with half credit only. No late homework will be accepted.
3.
Lateness and Cutting: Lateness is disruptive to the
learning process and will not be tolerated. Cutting is an unauthorized absence
from your class, it is never
excused and will have a direct effect on your grade. It will contribute to a
reduced class participation grade. If you do happen to be late, you must sign the late log.
4.
Participation: This is an important part of
your grade. Students should feel free to express their opinions and ideas by
speaking in class, not calling out or interrupting other students. Class
participation includes all class activities such as: written assignments, oral
presentations, class discussion, and individual group work. You must be attentive and copy all notes
given. Come to class prepared with a notebook, pen/pencil and any other
materials required by the teacher.
5.
Assessment: All quizzes, exams etc. will be
announced in advance and must be completed
in black or blue pen. If you miss
and exam, you will not be given an opportunity for a makeup without a
legitimate absence note.
6. Cell Phone Policy: When you are in my class, your cell phone must be turned
off. I will give you 100% of my attention and I expect the same from you. If you are using your
phone in class you will receive a deduction from your classwork grade.
Repeated offenses will result in a failing grade for classwork which could
result in an overall failing grade for the marking period. Each deduction will
be result in having 5 points subtracted from your classwork grade.
COMMUNICATION
& SUPPORT:
Positive,
constructive communication is one of my highest priorities. Solving problems is
an important aspect of good communication. I am very concerned about questions
and confusion that my students may be experiencing. I encourage you to approach
me after class so that I can give you my undivided attention [if I am free] or
see me in the halls, or drop a note in my mailbox, so that I know we need to
talk. Never hesitate to share your respectful feelings with me. Students
quickly learn that I will eagerly listen and respond to their concerns when
they approach me courteously.
Remember, this is
OUR class, yours as well as mine. What you do it in has a direct effect on
everyone. My goal is to have a class where teacher and students work, talk and
think together – a place where no one tries to take advantage of another and
where we learn from the help of each other!

I have read the Classroom Contract and understand
what is expected of me and the ramifications of failing to comply with these
guidelines. Please detach only the bottom portion to be handed in and attach
the contract on the first page
of your notebook.
